I like having breakfast. I kind of love it. I often go to bed excited about tomorrow’s breakfast, and I often wake up excited about it. In this blog post I’d like to document the recipes and cute spots I’ve come to love enough to revisit. I don’t intend this to become a super-balanced list of well-curated options, but simply a catalog of my taste at a certain time. It’s also an excuse to write about non-tech topics.
At home
Coffee and toast, that’s the norm. It took me a while to find the bread I like, and finally settled on three types of loaves you can find at Rewe: Zwiebelbrot, Dinkelbrot mit Karottenstreifen, and Weißbrot mit Glanz. I buy them whole and then slice them (thickly) before I keep them in the freezer.
Then, every morning, I grab a couple and put them in my sandwich maker while I prepare my coffee: a double shot of decaf prepared in my Delonghi Dedica, where I can also froth some Oatly Barista Lighter Taste. Nothing fancy, yet I have not gotten tired of it after a few years.
What goes on the toast? Depends on the season, but I’ve found three toppings that I keep coming back to:
- Avocado and cherry tomatoes, sprinkled with Just Spices avocado topping
- Hummus and cherry tomatoes
- Butter and salt

Sometimes I bring home some queso añejo tostado and slice it over Andalusian tomato spread: tomatoes, garlic, salt, oregano, and olive oil, all blended/puréed. For this combination, small buns like the panini rustico work better.
Yes, it’s been a while I’ve had a sweet breakfast. When I’m craving sweets I usually go for coffee and cake… elsewhere.

Camino Brunch & Coffee
Hufelandstraße 16, 10407 Berlin, Germany
I first visited this place after a therapy appointment nearby. I just wanted coffee and cake to decompress, and I remember everything was exquisite: the coffee, the cake, the service, and the space. I kept coming back with my laptop to get work done.
Their oat milk cappuccino never disappoints, and the Nordic toast is incredible. Try it with the extra avocado cream for an even better twist. Their pistachio waffle is also fantastic and a perfect alternative if you are not into a savory order.

Casa Manila
Av. del Descubrimiento, S/N, 11500 El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, Spain
One of my favorite places when I’m visiting my family back in Cádiz. I always order a mollete con jamón ibérico and a café con leche. Never fails. Always good. And the price is very fair.

Cafe Señorita Ploff dos x-berg
Wrangelstraße 52, 10997 Berlin, Germany
I ran into this by chance while walking around Kreuzkölln. Pretty small location, perhaps four or five tables. Good coffee, very nice interpretation of a French toast.
A Happy Pancake
Japan, 〒530-0027 Osaka, Kita Ward, Doyamacho, 4−7 1F
Those fluffy pancakes. I had the raspberry ones and I can’t forget about them.

House of Small Wonder
Auguststraße 11-13, 10117 Berlin, Germany
Western brunch with a touch of Japanese cuisine. The brunch set with three “tapas” is very cost effective. Everything was tasty, oat milk cappuccino included. Reservation is almost compulsory.
